Makeup and Shoes-My Two Favourite Things!

Makeup and shoes are pretty much my two favourite things. It doesn’t matter what size I am or if I’m having a fa day, I’ll always find makeup and shoes.

When Swanky Swans got in touch and gave me £30 to spend on makeup, shoes and accessories on their website, I thought one of two things might happen:

  1. I would only be able to get one or two items
  2. I would be able to get a fair few items, but they would all be a bit naff.

I didn’t think there would be a third option – being able to treat myself to a fair few items AND that they would be fab. That’s exactly what happened.

I was initially only going to order makeup because according to Graham, the 47 pairs of shoes that I currently own is more than enough. He obviously hasn’t seen my lipstick collection! I was just having a little peek at them though, just for future reference, when I spotted these rose gold beauties. Now, we all know that rose gold is bang on trend (have I really just wrote that? It’s almost like I know what I’m talking about!) but these pretties have fluffy tassels as well. Rose gold and fluff on shoes? It’s like a match made in heaven for me. Obviously, they went on my list.

Now, the shoes were only £12.99, so I had plenty left to spend on makeup. After much deliberation and some input from fellow makeup lover Zara from Mojo Blogs, I decided on:

A lipliner  (£1.99)

Cream Highlighter (£3.99)

Matte lipstick set (£6.99)

Primer (£3.99)

They came really quickly and they were packaged up really well – especially important when it comes to makeup! The shoes looked just as pretty in real life as they do online. I ordered my normal size, which is a 7, and they fitted, but I think if I order shoes from there again (ok, WHEN I order, there’s no ‘if’ about it!), I’ll size up. I did have a little issue where the tassel fell off one, but that might have been more my eagerness to remove the protective covering. It just needed to be reattached.

Let’s talk about the makeup. First of all the primer. It was ok! It’s not quite as good as my normal one, but to be fair, my normal one is three times the price. This is absolutely fine for everyday use. It comes in a handy little tin with a sponge applicator. I did find it a little hard to get the product onto the sponge to use and ended up using my fingers. I think the tin is possibly a little too deep. However,  it gave me a nice smooth base to put the rest of my makeup on.

The highlighting cream is now probably my new favourite makeup item. I normally use powder highlighter but this cream goes on so smoothly and gives a very subtle shimmer without looking like a walking disco ball. Although, disco ball is a good look, just maybe not on the school run.

The lipliner is a decent, basic lipliner. The coral/nude colour means it goes with most of my lipsticks and glosses. I love that it has a built-in sharpener on the lid – it means I don’t have to hunt around for one when it goes blunt!

The lipsticks in the tin were more of a lipgloss but I really liked them, especially four colours for less than seven quid. I love matte lipsticks but sometimes they can feel and look really dry. These didn’t, and didn’t feel sticky either. The colours were all quite generic shades – a nude/brown, two pinky shades and a red. I liked all of them! The colour is quite intense and pigmented and lasted really well.

I was really impressed with the quality of the products from Swanky Swans, especially considering the price. I’ll be ordering some more makeup bits from them in the new year!

*I was sent these products free of charge for the purpose of this review. All words and opinions are my own.

  1. Great value -loving the lipsticks for sticking fillers
Not quite into shoes that are gold – might be my age!
