As a blogger, I’ve ran a fair few competitions, but it has only been in the last few months that the thought of actually entering any competition has crossed my mind. Since July, I’ve entered a few and have been pretty lucky so far!
A necklace (a blog giveaway)
A light up cot mobile (Twitter)
A little comforter for Ben from Precious Little Worlds
A George Foreman grill from Recipes and Reviews
$50 Amazon Giftcard (a blogger competition)
So as you can see, in a couple of months I haven’t done too badly, especially when you think it only takes a minute or so to enter each one. The only one that was time consuming was the Amazon giftcard one because I had to write a blog post (which you can read here.
Competitions is all about numbers. Enter enough, and you will win. I know there are some hardcore ‘compers’ out there who spend hours each day entering every competition going – they are the ones who are going to do well because they’re putting the hours in. Fair play to them! I spend maybe half an hour a day entering competitions. I do tend to only enter competitions that are relevant to me, or someone I know, where again a lot of compers enter everything (and why not?!) because I haven’t got the time at the moment. I usually enter competitions that pop up on my Twitter timeline (proving that the options for competitions do work and get noticed!) or on my Facebook timeline. I’m in lots of competition groups on Facebook as I share my blog giveaways in them. I do often worry that my friends on Twitter or Facebook get irritated with retweets or shares of prizes, but then I’m very much of the mind that if you don’t want to see it, don’t follow or be friends with me!
If I have the odd spare few minutes I do look on The Prize Finder website and Money Saving Expert to see if there is anything worth entering. These are definitely the places to look if you’re serious about winning!
I haven’t really got any tips or tricks for entering competitions – I’m not serious about it enough to think about that. I tend to only enter ones that involve Rafflecopter or Gleam (usually on blogs) or the ‘like and share’ ones on Facebook. As someone who runs competitions and giveaways, the one thing I can say is make sure you do what you’re meant to – I have to regularly disqualify people as they haven’t done the mandatory entry, or have said they’ve followed me etc and haven’t. Bloggers do check!
Do you enter competitions? What has been your biggest win?
