I hate that saying. Like, really hate it. The calendar changing from one year to another doesn’t change anyone. They’re still the same person. What they usually mean is that they’re going to enrol at a hideously expensive gym, spend a fortune on fancy gym clothes and chia seeds, or whatever the latest healthy eating fad is, before giving up three weeks later and spending their last fiver on a Big Mac Meal. It never works. Trust me. I’ve done it. Three times at least.
No. This year, 2017, is going to be different. It’s already different. We are more than three weeks in and the Rachel that is slowly but steadily losing weight, eating healthier and getting fit is very much still strong and still going. I haven’t put pressure on myself, haven’t made any resolutions and certainly haven’t done the whole ‘new year, new me’ thing. At the end of the year, I want to be the same person I am now, just slimmer and fitter.
Like most people at this time of year, we are on quite a tight budget. We plan our meals in advance which helps us save some money – we can use vouchers, take advantages of offers and batch cook. It also stops me being tempted to order a takeaway or eat junk food when I can’t be bothered to cook. My Voucher Codes have also come up with loads of ways in which you can save a few quid this year whilst losing weight and getting healthier. Win win!
This kind of sums up exactly what I’ve been doing. I keep a look out for the ‘yellow stickers’ in the supermarket and whack it in the freezer in the garage. I’ll keep batch cooking so I always have a supply of healthy ‘ready-meals’ in the freezer. I use My Fitness Pal to keep an eye on calories and I’m finding all sorts of little ways to add more exercise into my day to day routine.
I’ll be doing some regular updates about my progress. It will keep me accountable and hopefully keep me on track to a fitter, healthier Rachel.
