I can imagine that hospital treatment or surgery for a young child must be a really frightening experience, and for parents or carers who are feeling just as anxious, it must be so hard to explain.
These resources from Monkey Wellbeing are perfect to help answer any difficult questions and explain procedures in a child friendly and reassuring manner.
We received ‘Monkey Has a Blood Test’, ‘Monkey Has an Operation’, ‘Monkey Visits the Emergency Department’ and ‘Children’s Guidebook to Healthy Living and NHS Services’ as well as a selection of stickers to have a look at.
The books are all lovely and reassuring. You can’t help falling in love with Monkey, a cuddly toy photographed in different situations in real life hospitals. The blood test and operation books talk through the procedures in steps, making it seem less frightening to a young child. The language is clear and simple making them perfect to share with pre-school age children. The books also contain a glossary of words that the children may hear when it comes to discussing any medical procedures.
The activity book has plenty of activities to keep a child entertained whilst teaching them about what happens in an emergency department. It includes puzzles, games, stickers, colouring pages and a little pack of pencils, and a pop out ambulance.
These books would be a fantastic resource to share with any child. We all hope we will never have to go through any hospital treatment with our children but these are perfect for explaining the procedures.
