From popping some Jim Shore Disney figurines on your fireplace to watching Disney films together, here are some of the best ways you can enjoy the magic of Disney as a family:
Watch Disney Movies
The family that plays together, stays together. And for families that love Disney, one of the best ways to play together is to have a lazy movie afternoon spent munching popcorn and watching your favourite Disney films. Walt Disney Studios are notoriously prolific, and the company has released at least 147 films, so there are sure to be a couple that you haven’t seen yet. Why not pick an evening an designate it as family movie night each week? It will give your kids something to look forward to when they’re snowed under with homework and school projects. Turn off your phones, devices and other distractions, open up a big bag of snacks and snuggle together on the sofa. It’s a wonderful way to promote family bonding and engagement, and is an activity that can entertain children of all ages. Ideal if you have a big age gap between siblings, and in cold weather when outdoor activities are less appealing.
Bring Disney Into Your Home
There is nothing better than injecting some Disney magic to your home, and one of the best ways to do this is to add some Disney touches to your décor. Whether you add Jim Shore Disney figurines to your mantel place or display some Disney tea towels in your kitchen, your kids will be delighted to see little Disney touches all around them. If your children really enjoy Disney then you may even want to consider giving them a Disney themed bedroom: you have the freedom to add plenty of Disney touches in a children’s room, and can create a whole new world dedicated to their favourite character. Bringing Disney into your home will mean you always have a visual reminder of your shared interests everywhere you turn.
Go to Disney World
The ultimate holiday for a family of Disney enthusiasts is a trip to Disneyland. Whether you want to visit Disneyland Paris, Disney World in California or Walt Disney World in Florida, your whole family will be completely immersed in the wonder of Disney, and the joy that it can bring. A trip to Disneyland will be busy and expensive (and certainly can’t be categorised as a quiet and relaxing family holiday) but if you plan it properly you will all have a wonderful time and forge memories that you’ll never forget.
If you’re looking for a full two-week holiday, then Walt Disney World is the largest of the resorts. Walt Disney World is also officially the Happiest Place on Earth, comprising of four separate and distinctive Disney parks and two water parks. Because of its sheer size, Walt Disney World allows you to completely immerse yourself in the Disney magic and the weather is also warm and sunny there all year round. If your kids weren’t mad about Disney before they arrive in Walt Disney World, they certainly will be the time they leave!
Eat Like You’re In Disneyland
From Mickey Mouse shaped waffles to chocolate covered bananas, the food in Disney World is so delicious and so extensive that it almost deserves an article all of its own. If your family love to eat in Disneyland then why not bring their favourite dishes to life in your own home? You can find a whole range of different Disney inspired recipes online, and you can also use your imagination to inject Disney magic into every dish. Why stack three pancakes on top of each other, for example, when you could lay them out on the plate and add chocolate buttons to create Mickey Mouse’s face? Goofy’s famous ‘Goofy Dogs’ are also easy to create at home; simply fry up some hot dogs and add cheese and pickles to create everyone in Hot Dog Hills favourite dish.
Eating like you’re in Disneyland doesn’t just mean eating junk food. Fruit kebabs are also a wonderful Disney-inspired dish perfect for encouraging even the most reluctant of children to eat their five a day. There are fresh fruit stands dotted all over the Disney parks, making it a quintessential Disney dish.
Start Your Day the Disney Way
The Disney ethos is all about being thankful for every day. Peter Pan teaches us to never grow up, Cinderella shows us to be kind and follow our dreams, whilst Sleeping Beauty that we should never give up on ourselves or on the people that we love. These are all wonderful ethos to introduce into our homes so that we raise heroes, rather than villains!
Why not start your day the Disney way by taking time out each morning to ask your children what they are thankful for, and what they hope to achieve that day. In younger children, you could even ask them which Disney character they will be modelling their behaviour on every day (but don’t be surprised if your small boys choose to be Peter Pan every day!) By reminding our children to be kind and encouraging them to think about their long term goals, you are more likely to raise healthy and well rounded children.
Are you looking for an incentive to get fit and healthy, and to bring the rest of your family along for the ride? Then why not sign up for a RunDisney event? These are marathons and half marathons held for adults and children of all ages that take place within the Disney parks. Most runners register for the events twelve months in advance, giving you plenty of time to train together as a family. If you (or your kids) are feeling reluctant to get up and go for a jog in the morning, remind yourself, them, that they will be rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime Disney vacation for their efforts. Don’t have the energy to run? Don’t take a day off! Walking is just as good for you, and will still help you to build your stamina and erase your fatigue.
Exercise releases endorphins with will make all of you feel happier and more relaxed. This in term will lead to a happier, and more well-balanced family life. What’s more, children that engage in regular physical exercise will have stronger muscles and bones, leaner bodies, better sleep patterns, and will be better able to handle the physical and emotional challenges that their everyday lives throw at them.
Host Disney Themed Celebrations
Finally, why have a party when you could have a Disney themed party? From summer barbeques to birthday parties, Christmas get togethers to Halloween spook fests, all of your parties will be more fun if you give them a Disney twist. The beauty of the extensive Disney back catalogue is that there’s a Disney film for everything, so you’ll find inspiration to suit every event and every member of your family. If you can’t find the décor you want then get your creative juices flowing and make your own: this is a great project that the whole family can get involved in. Crafting is great for encouraging both creativity and fine motor skills and, even if your project doesn’t turn out quite how you’d imagined it would, you are sure to have a lot of fun making a mess and trying something new together.
